Gina Nelson and Keith Whitecotton Crowned PGA of Alberta Ladies and Seniors Champions
25 August, 2026
EDMONTON—Gina Nelson of Highlands Golf Club and Keith Whitecotton of The Quarry were crowned champions Tuesday at the PGA of Alberta Ladies and Senior Championships, presented by Travel Craft and Fresh Golf, at Northern Bear Golf Club.
Nelson was the only player in the Ladies Championship field to finish at even par, posting rounds of 70 and 74 to capture the title.
“The putter was good today. I didn’t leave it in a bad spot. I’ve been playing off the tee well this week” said Nelson, who has been working on her game hard this summer and tried to Monday qualify for the recent LPGA Tour stop in Edmonton, but came up just short. “I have a lot more confidence over the ball and over every shot. This course was a tough set up today. I tried to leave shots around the green, or on the green, for a birdie or to save par.”
Rhonda Carter of Golf Fanatics finished second after rounds of 81 and 78, while fellow Golf Fanatics professional Kendra Jones-Munk placed third with rounds of 77 and 83.
The victory adds another PGA of Alberta title to Nelson’s recent success. Last season, she teamed up with Matt Moroz to capture the 2025 PGA of Alberta Srixon/Cleveland Team Match Play Championship presented by Nike.
On the Senior Championship side, Keith Whitecotton was also the lone player to finish at even par, carding rounds of 71 and 73 for a 36-hole total of 144 to claim the title.
“Well, this course is very hard, I don’t think I played that great, I think some guys let me off the hook coming down the stretch,” said Whitecotton, who is a first-time winner of the event. “To get it done today was surprising. You can make some big numbers on this golf course. I really like the golf course. It suits my eye.”
Jason Stanier of Inglewood Golf and Country Club finished runner-up for the second consecutive year, posting rounds of 74 and 73 to finish three shots back at 147.
Jeff Cuthbertson of Stony Plain Golf Club rounded out the top three in the 34-player field, recording consecutive rounds of 74 to finish at four-over par.
