Highlands Van Amsterdam & Marshall Capture Nike Golf Pro-Junior
Today saw the 2023 Nike Golf Pro-Junior presented by Srixon, Cleveland Golf, and AHEAD Canada. We had a stacked field of 60 teams competing at the beautiful and mint conditioned Ponoka GC. It was a perfect day for our competitors and a wonderful day was had by all. Congratulations to Daniel Boyle who had an Ace on the par 3 fifth hole today!
After an absolutely perfect day on the golf course, the Team of: Evan Van Amsterdam + Myles Marshall from Highlands GC rose above the rest of the field to win the 2023 Nike Golf Pro-Junior Title presented by Srixon, Cleveland Golf, and AHEAD Canada. Evan and Myles played lights-out golf today to amass an excellent 45 Stableford Points and to win by 1 point over their nearest competitors.
Falling just one point back of our Champions in Second Place was the Team from: The Glencoe G&CC comprised of: Colin Yarchuk + Carys Code with a total of 44 Stableford points. In Third Place was the Team from: The Winston GC, comprised of: Carson Taylor + Allison Chan who finished with 43 Stableford Points. In Fourth Place (via retrogression) was the Team from: Windermere G&CC, comprised of: Joshua Mackey + Daniel Boyle finishing with 43 Stableford Points. Rounding out our Top-5, in Fifth Place (via retrogression) was the Team from: Canyon Meadows G&CC, Matthew Cook + Charlie Gillespie who finished with 43 Stableford Points.

MacComb Victorious After Course Record at Turner Valley GC
Round 2 of the Players Tour event at Turner Valley GC saw David MacComb (Royal Mayfair GC) take home the title after shooting 34 on the front and 31 on the back to finish with a course record 65. MacComb shot a 2-day total of 12-under par.
Tied for Second place, Dillon Batsel (Desert Blume GC) and Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC) finished the tournament with a score of 5-under after shooting a 69 and 70 today respectively.
Tyler LeBouthillier (GOLFTEC Calgary Beacon Heights) and Michael Harrison (Coal Creek GR) finished in a tie for Third, both players ended the tournament at 4-under par.
Congratulations to our skins winner today: Adam Bruce (GOLFTEC Sherwood Park) with an Eagle on hole #2.

MacComb and LeBouthillier Lead After Round 1 at Turner Valley GC
Round 1 one the Players Tour event at Turner Valley GC is now complete and the course was in fantastic condition.
David MacComb (Royal Mayfair GC) and Tyler LeBouthillier (GOLFTEC Calgary Beacon Heights) lead the way after carding rounds of 5-under 67. MacComb made 4 Birdies and an Eagle while LeBouthillier followed with 3 Birdies and 2 Eagles.
In a tie for 3rd is Eric Locke (Priddis Greens G&CC) and Kyle Wade (PGA of Alberta member) who each carded a 3-under 69 on the day. Locke had 6 Birdies while Kyle Wade had 3 Birdies and an Eagle.
Rounding out our top-5 was Dillon Batsel (Desert Blume GC) who carded a 2-under 70, with 4 Birdies.
Round 2 will start early tomorrow morning at 9am.

Heffernan Takes Players Tour Title at Whispering Pines G&CC
Today was the fourth Players Tour event of the season at Whispering Pines G&CC, the course was in fantastic condition and the weather was beautiful.
Wes Heffernan (Dynamic Motion Golf Performance Centre) lead the field to take home the fourth Players Tour title of the season. Wes carded a 33 on the front and a 37 on the back to shoot -2 under for the day. He had an eagle on the 9th hole to capture the only skin of the day.
In a tie for Second, Kevin Black (Redwood Meadows G&CC) and Graeme Nelson (Derrick G&WC (The)) carded rounds of 2-under par.
Rounding out our Top-5 was Michael Harrison (Coal Creek GR) and Tyrel Babkirk (Apple Creek GC) who shot even par on the day.

Ryan Fitzpatrick and Connor Ackroyd Join PGA of Alberta
Congratulations to Ryan Fitzpatrick and Connor Ackroyd passed the Play Ability Test today hosted at Whispering Pines G&CC, shooting 78 and 77 respectively.
All players shot the target score or better - 79 (49 years & younger) to successfully pass and become an Apprentice Professional of the PGA of Canada.
McCluskey and Prior Take Home EFW Radiology - adidas Golf Pro-Lady South Title
Today saw the second Pro-Am of the season hosted at the beautiful Highwood Golf, sponsored by adidas Golf & EFW Radiology and presented by Jancor Agencies. The course was in fantastic shape and the Leaderboard saw a tight battle at the top for the title. This year’s event continued with the Team Net Stableford scoring format which kept things fun and exciting for the competition.
Our Champions this year are: Phil McCluskey (River Bend G&RA) and his partner Linda Prior, who fired a superb round today to finish with 46 Net Stableford team points to win by 1! Phil carded a 2-under 70 with a 35 on the front-9 which was followed up with another 35on the back-9. Phil carded 1 Eagle and 5 Birdies today. His partner Linda Prior, played fantastic, with 4 total Birdies today, 3 being net birdies and the other a Birdie 2 on #3 on their march to victory.
In Solo Second Place, was the team of: Scott Smith (Dynamic Motion Golf Performance Centre) and Jaime Wong who accumulated a stellar 45 points today.
Finishing in Third through retrogression, at 42 points was the team of: Tyler Lebouthillier (GOLFTEC Calgary Beacon Heights) and Wendy Ellacott.
In Fourth, also through retrogression and finishing with 42 points was the team of: Scott Stiles (Earl Grey GC) and Brynne Davies.
Rounding out our Top-5, in Fifth finishing with 41 points was the team of: Kevin Graf (Woodside GC) and Patti Reid.

Harrison Captures Players Tour Title At Edmonton Garrison Memorial G&CC
Today saw the third Players Tour event of the season atEdmonton Garrison Memorial G&CC and was a successful day with plenty of excitment. We saw some great scores on the Leaderboardtoday with 14 players under par or even. The shot of the day belonged to Jake Behiels (Cougar Creek GR) who had a Double Eagle/Albatross on the Par 5 Seventh Hole!
Michael Harrison (Coal Creek GR) rose to the top of a congested Leaderboard and takes home our third Players Tour Title of the season and his first Professional Title of his career. Michael carded a great round of 3-under par 69 today with 7 Birdies on the card. Michael battled on the front-9, carding a 2-over 38, but didn’t let that deter him from turning it on for the back-9 today. He fired an excellent blemish free back-9 of 5-under par 31, to prevail by 1 stroke over his nearest competitors with Birdies on the 11th, 14th & 15th and two timely clutch Birdies to close the event out on the 17th & 18th holes.
Finishing behind our Leader in a 3-way tie for 2nd after carding solid 2-under par 70’s was: Markus Clift (Coloniale GC), Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC) & Kevin Black (Redwood Meadows G&CC).

Close Battle At Cardiff G&CC Players Tour Event Decided On The 18th Green
The merger wasn’t the only exciting news in the golf world these last 2 days! An extremely exciting Round 2 of the Players Tour event at Cardiff G&CC transpired today. Conditions were perfect again for our competitors, and we saw a heated battle at the top of our Leaderboard for 1st throughout the day; a playoff was looming until a timely & decisive 7-foot putt on the 18th green sealed the victory for Mitchell Fox (Speargrass GC) who finished the 2-round event at -7.
Mitch was in our final group that Tee’d off at 10:10 AM this morning and carded an excellent front-9 of 3-under par 33 with 4 Birdies on the card. He followed it up with a blemish free back-9 and his clutch putt on the 18th for Birdie and the Win to edge his nearest competitor by 1-stroke. Mitch finished the event with a two-day gross total of 137 (69-68).
Weston Gillett (Lacombe G&CC) finished in sole possession of 2nd at -6, after putting together 2 great and consistent rounds of 3-under par 69 to finish the event with a two-day gross total of 138 (69-69). Weston was even-par 36 on the front-9 today and followed it up with 3-under par 33 on the back-9 with 3 Birdies.
Nick Vandermey (Windermere G&CC) finished in solo 3rd at -5, after carding another solid round of 2-under par 70 today to finish the event with a two-day gross total of 139. Nick carded 2-under par 34 on the front-9 with 3 Birdies and followed it up with an even-par 36 on the back-9 with an Eagle on the 13th hole.
Kevin Black (Redwood Meadows G&CC) finished in sole possession of 4th at -4, carding 3-under par 69 today to finish the event with a two-day gross total of 140. Kevin carded a blemish free front-9 today of 34 with 2 Birdies and followed it up with 1-under par 35 on the back-9 with 3 Birdies.
Rounding out the top 5 for the event, in a two-way tie at -3 was: Markus Clift (Coloniale GC) & Tyler LeBouthillier (GOLFTEC Calgary Beacon Heights) who both finished the event with two-day gross total’s of 141. Marcus carded a 3-under par 69 today. Tyler carded a 2-under par 70 today.
Matthew Mah(Mill Woods GC) carded the round of the day, firing a stellar 6-under par 66, with a 2-under par 34 on the front-9 and a 4-under par 32 on the back-9 with 7 Birdies on the card.

Fox, Gillett & Vandermey Tied In The Lead After R1 At Cardiff G&CC
Today saw Round 1 of the Players Tour event at Cardiff G&CC and what a day for golf it was. Conditions were perfect and we saw some great scores on the Leaderboard from our competitors. Weston Gillett (Lacombe G&CC), Nick Vandermey (Windermere G&CC) and Mitchell Fox (Speargrass GC) all carded 3-under par 69’s today to setup a stellar final group for an exciting R2 tomorrow.
Rounding out the top 5, all shooting a 1-under par 71, was: Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry), Kevin Black (Redwood Meadows G&CC), & Tyler LeBouthillier(GOLFTEC Calgary Beacon Heights) who all remain well within range of our Leaders with a low round needed tomorrow to put some heat on.
In a 3-way tie for seventh, host professional, Dallas Cantera (Cardiff G&CC), Jeff Cuthbertson (Stony Plain GC) & Markus Clift (Coloniale GC) who all carded solid even-par 72’s today.
Round 2 will start bright and early tomorrow morning at 8am.

One of the main focuses of the PGA of Alberta has been supporting Junior Golf. Alberta Golf Professionals use their expertise to create, organize, and facilitate junior-oriented events.
The Scholarship Program is another step in the overall development of our current programming. The program provides junior golfers from around the province the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding achievements, while promoting and providing access to continuing education. Over 60 scholarships have been presented since 1998.
