Tournament of Champions Draw – Red Deer G&CC

The draw is now posted for the annual Tournament of Champions event Sponsored by Callaway Golf and hosted this year at Red Deer G&CC. The event will see 44 teams of Professionals and their Club Champion from 2018 in a best-ball format to determine this years winners and their take of the $13,400 purse. Last years Champions of Jeff Cuthbertson & Jeff Murdoch (Stony Plain GC) are back once again to defend their title after shooting a 12-under in 2018 at McKenzie Meadows GC. The event will begin with at 9:30am on Monday, May 27th.

GSH Series Draw – RedTail Landing GC

RedTail Landing is excited to be hosting the first 2-day Golf Supply House Series event of the season taking place next week on June 3 & 4. The event will see a competitive field of 42 Professionals competing for their share of the $9,600 purse. Tee times will begin at 12pm on June 3rd for round one and 7:30am on June 4th for round two.

RedTail Landing GC is a prairie-links-style golf course built with the focus solely on golf on all 234 acres. All 18 holes are laid out with strategic bunkers along with generous, wide fairways that provide a superb challenge for any level of golfer.

PAT at RedTail Landing GC - R1 Draw

The draw is now available for the 2nd Play Ability Test of the season at RedTail Landing GC on Monday, June 3rd and Tuesday, June 4th. Tee times will begin at 2:20pm on June 3rd and will begin at 9:50am on June 4th. The round two draw will be created immediately following the competition of round 1. Hamptons GC Wins 2019 Tournament of Champions

Team Hamptons GC consisting of Executive Professional Gord Courage and amateur Ethan Banks took home the 2019 Callaway Golf Tournament of Champions hosted by Red Deer G&CC, finishing with a notable 6-under 66 in the best ball format. There was a tie for second place with the host team Red Deer G&CC  Head Professional Dean Manz and amateur Carter Graf, and team Lacombe G&CC with Head Professional Weston Gillett and amateur Tom Mckinlay Jr, posting a close 5-under 67.

Choi, Bell take home Junior Masters Titles

Ethan Choi (Pincher Creek GC) reclaimed his Junior Masters title with a 5-under 135. Runner up in the  boys division was Reid Svendsen (Links at Spruce Grove) with the low round of the day 3-under 68. Grace Bell (Glencoe G&CC) finished strong shooting a 77, bringing her 2 day total to 148 to claim the Junior Masters title for the girls. On day 2 with the low round of 73, Jenna Bruggeman (Derrick G&WC ) applied pressure  to Bell. Bruggeman came up a little shy finishing a close second 3 shots back.

Wolf Creek Playing Ability Test – Final Results

The first PAT of the season is now complete. After a two-day grind at Wolf Creek GR, 4 players successfully passed their Playing Ability Test. Congratulations to the newest Members of the PGA of Canada; Cullen Wanvig of Winston GC (154) for achieving his Class A Membership Target Score, John Moug of HeatherGlen GC (157), Ryan Brown of Athabasca G&CC (159) & Randy Rook of Woodside GC (160) on achieving their CFM Target Score.

Choi & Bell Light It Up on Day 1 of Junior Masters

Grace Bell (Glencoe G&CC) shot a 1-over 71 to lead the girl’s division after round 1 of the Junior Masters presented by Sundog Eyewear at the Wolf Creek GR. Top score heading into day 2 is Ethan Choi (Pincher Creek GC), leading the boys division after shooting a low 4-under 66 on the Old Course. They will try to hold off the other competitors in pursuit of their respective Junior Masters title.

Rule Changes for 2019 Golf Season

The rules of golf have changed substantially. Officials from Golf Canada, the United States Golf Association and the Royal & Ancient made the most sweeping revisions to golf’s rules in more than 60 years this year. What does it mean to you? And did they go far enough? “The existing rule book was pretty complicated. They’ve made it easier to understand and they’ve simplified things,” said Dunc Mills, a level 2 referee with Alberta Golf, who has been helping with several clinics at golf courses across Alberta put on by Alberta Golf to explain the myriad of changes.

Close Finish at Serenity

Serenity GC made their hosting debut at the fourth annual Golf Supply House Pro-Pro Scramble. Despite the chilly weather, the course was in great shape and players were treated to great round of golf. Riley Fleming (NGAD) and Scott Stiles (Bearspaw CC) captured the win posting a low score of 14-under 58. Finishing a close second shooting 13-under 59 was Spencer and Nick VanderMey (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC)

Team Match Play Championship - Brackets Updated!

The brackets for annual PGA of Alberta Team Match Play Championship Sponsored by Srixon/Cleveland Golf has now been updated. Forty-nine teams from the North and South will compete all season long until one team is left standing as the Champions. Last year’s winners of Jamie Kureluk & Jordan Fenwick (GOLFTEC Calgary Midnapore) have teamed up again to defend their title against the competitive field.

2019 Junior Masters at Wolf Creek GR - Draw Now Posted

The PGA of Alberta Junior Masters Sponsored by Sundog Eyewear is a 36-Hole invitational Junior Golf Tournament organized each year by the PGA of Alberta. Players qualify for the Junior Masters by invitation based on their previous year’s position on the Golf Canada Junior Order of Merit. Invitations are extended to players in three age categories: 18 & Under, 16 & Under, and 14 & Under.

This year we have 59 of the top Junior Boys and Girls in the province with a highly competitive golf background competing at Wolf Creek GR next week on May 23rd & 24th. The Boys Division Champion from 2018, Ethan Choi (Pincher Creek GC), will be back to defend his title while the Girls Division will crown a new Champion.

Tee times begin at 12:00pm on Thursday, May 23rd and will begin at approximately 11am on Friday, May 24th. The round 2 draw will be created immediately following the competition of round 1.

Team Match Play Seeding Solidified at Ranch G&CC

Another fantastic day of golf at The Ranch G&CC for the Team Match Play Championship – North Qualifier Sponsored by Srixon/Cleveland Golf. With both qualifiers now complete, the rankings have been determined and the brackets will be complete for the first round of the Championship. The bracket will be released on Friday, May 17th for the North. Today’s low round was shot by Craig McArthur (Affiliate)  and Jacques Plouffe (Blackhawk GC), posting an 8-under 63 in the team best ball format.

Serenity GC Now Hosting Pro-Pro Scramble Next Week!

After unforeseen course conditions at Blue Devil GC, the Pro-Pro Scramble will change venues to Serenity GC in Rocky View County next week. The date of the event will remain the same on Tuesday, May 21st and the start time will be an 11am shotgun. Serenity GC is very excited to now be hosting the Pro-Pro Scramble and will provide players with a great day of golf.

The Hamptons GC to Host Golf Supply House Series Event in July

The Hamptons GC will now host the eighth Golf Supply House Series event of the season on July 16th. The Hamptons GC is no stranger to hosting PGA of Alberta tournaments which include the Fall Championship (former Tour Championship) in 2014 and the Shaw Charity Classic Event Qualifier the last several years.

Great Day at Canyon Meadows G&CC for Team Match Play South

Players were treated to a fantastic day of golf today at Canyon Meadows G&CC for the Team Match Play Championship – South Qualifier Sponsored by Srixon/Cleveland Golf. With the round now complete, players have determined their rankings for the first round of the Championship. The bracket will be released on Thursday, May 16th for the South. Low round of the event goes to home course Professional Brady Karlson (Canyon Meadows G&CC) and Taylor Irvin (Silver Springs G&CC) after shooting a 10-under 62 in the team best ball format.

Playoff at Highlands GC

A playoff was needed for the second straight Golf Supply House Series Event.  Nick Vandermey (Windermere G&CC) birdied the third playoff hole at the Highlands G&CC,  to capture the title.   Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC)  continued his excellent start to the season with his second straight runner up finish.  Both players had exceptional rounds carding 1-under 70’s.  Finishing in a tie for third was  Keith Whitecotton (The Quarry)  and Craig McArthur (PGA of Alberta Member) one shot off the pace.

Successful Day for the PGA on Wheels in Red Deer

For the second year in a row, the PGA on Wheels program attended the Annual Go Girl event at the Collicutt Centre in Red Deer to help grow the game to young girls. Over 120 girls participated in the PGA on Wheels and received golf instruction from PGA of Alberta Members. Thank you to the following Professionals for taking time out of their day to support the program and help grow the game: Chris Ward (Edmonton Petroleum G&CC), David MacMicken (Brooks GC), John Deneer (PGA of Alberta Member), Logan Hill (River Bend G&RA) and Sean Thompson (Cottonwood G&CC). Srixon/Cleveland Golf Team Match Play Championship Draws

The draws are now posted for Team Match Play Championship sponsored by Srixon & Cleveland Golf. This year will have two opening rounds for the Championship, one North and one South. Forty-seven teams from throughout Alberta will compete against each other all season to determine this years  winners. The purse is set at $16,100.

The format for the opening round will be a two-person Best-Ball Qualifier to determine rankings for the first round of the Team Match Play Championship. This will help create more excitement surrounding the event as teams now determine their rankings based on their performance at the Qualifier.

After the Qualifiers are completed, matches will resume as normal with the brackets being created based on the results from the Qualifier. The top-ranking teams from the Qualifiers will play the bottom ranking teams. All teams will be guaranteed the Qualifying round plus the first round match up.

Golf Supply House Series Draw - Highlands GC

The draw is now posted for the second Golf Supply House Series of the season being hosted at Highlands GC in Edmonton on Monday, May 13th. The field of 63 players will compete for a purse size of $8,000. Tee times begin at 8:00am. Winner of the 1-day GSH Series event will receive 20 Order of Merit points.

Continuing again for 2019 is the starting skins pot thanks to our sponsor IMPACT Tournament Systems. The starting pot for all 1-day GSH Series events will be $250.

Stoski Wins Season Opener in Playoff

The tournament season has officially begun for the PGA of Alberta after a beautiful day in Lethbridge for the Golf Supply House Series at Henderson Lake GC. After a hard-fought day on the course, we needed extra holes to determine a winner after Justin Stoski (Lethbridge CC) and Craig Gibson (Sirocco GC) both shot even par (70) after 18-holes. After hitting his drive 10-yards over the green on the first playoff hole, Stoski got it up and down for birdie to edge out Gibson and win the opening tournament of the season. Stoski also won a skin of $232.50 to add to an already successful day. Only shooting 1-stroke back of the lead in a three-way tie for third was Matt Kirlin (Lynx Ridge GC), Kent Fukushima (Redwood Meadows G&CC) and Dustin Risdon (The Players Shack).

The PGA of Alberta is excited to announce the first draw of the 2019 tournament season which is the southern Alberta Golf Supply House Series being hosted at Henderson Lake GC in Lethbridge on Monday, May 6th. Field size is confirmed at 34 players with the purse set at $4,700. Tee times begin at 10:00am. Winner of the 1-day GSH Series event will receive 20 Order of Merit points.
