About the PGA of Alberta

Established in 1964, the PGA of Alberta exists to support and advance the careers of golf professionals living and working throughout the province. As a not-for-profit Association, our mandate is to complement the programs and services provided by the Professional Golfers’ Association of Canada (PGA of Canada) which was founded in 1911, while addressing the unique needs of Alberta’s golf industry.

For more than six decades, the PGA of Alberta has delivered value to its more than 700 members through the organization of tournaments, education seminars, trade shows, and consumer events - all with a singular focus: helping our members succeed.

In 1986, the Board of Directors set a long-term vision to strengthen the Association’s financial stability by building an asset base that included a dedicated facility. That vision became reality on July 10, 2012, when 17 past presidents gathered to celebrate the opening of the PGA of Alberta’s home office in Calgary – a significant milestone in our history.

Beyond financial stability, ownership of a dedicated facility provides the Association the opportunity to honour past and present members, celebrate achievements, and preserve the rich heritage of the PGA of Alberta. It also reinforces our long-standing presence in the province, strengthening our credibility and deepening our relationships with members, partners, and the broader business community. The facility serves as a welcoming hub for members, aspiring professionals, guests, and corporate partners alike.

With our members at the core of everything we do, the PGA of Alberta advocates daily for PGA of Canada professionals.

The PGA of Alberta supports its members through scholarships, bursaries, mentorship programs, and professional recognition, including our Hall of Fame and National Awards. A cornerstone of our mission is elevating the standard of golf instruction and coaching through ongoing education, workshops, seminars, and professional development opportunities.

Together, these efforts ensure the PGA of Alberta remains a strong, trusted, and forward-thinking leader in Alberta’s golf community committed to growing and strengthening the game throughout the Wild Rose province.

With an unwavering commitment to their membership, golf professionals expertly juggle phone calls from manufacturers, meetings with club committees, tournament planning, junior clinics, and pro shop operations - yet they still make time to offer personal guidance to players practicing on the range, and testing their own skills in professional tournaments held in Alberta and across Canada.

Our Members

Our Members

With more than 700 women and men serving over 180 facilities, the PGA of Alberta members are the backbone for golf in the province. From running golf shops and managing facilities to coaching, educating, and hosting tournaments and clinics, our members are leaders who continually grow the game.

Each member pays an annual fee that supports a wide range of training and development programs, workshops, accreditation pathways, and industry seminars. These programs ensure every member stays current with industry standards and can deliver the level of service golfers expect.

Tournaments

Tournaments

The PGA of Alberta is responsible for hosting 30 tournaments each year that not only strengthen recognition for the organization and its partners, but - most importantly - give PGA of Alberta members the opportunity to refine and showcase their competitive skills. By participating in these high-profile events, PGA of Alberta professionals also elevate the visibility of their home facilities across Alberta, generating meaningful revenue and valuable recognition for the clubs that choose to host.

Supporting Junior & Amateur Golf

Supporting Junior & Amateur Golf

The PGA of Alberta recognizes junior and amateur golf represent the long-term health of the game in Alberta. As interest in golf continues to surge and our population expands, our members face increasing responsibilities in leadership, instruction, and player development. The growing number of golf facilities across the province further elevates the need for skilled PGA of Canada professionals.

Thanks to our robust education and training programs, our membership is well-equipped to meet today’s demands - and positioned to grow substantially in the coming years. This progress will help ensure that golf in Alberta remains vibrant, accessible, and successful well into the future.
